Cricket Wireless Announces The Samsung Transfix

Samsung Transfix Announced By Cricket; Features Include Android 2.3 Gingerbread, A 3.2" Display, 3.2MP Camera & Contract-Free Price of $179.99

Those looking for a contract-free smartphone running Android may like this latest bit — Cricket Wireless has officially announced their latest smartphone offering, the Samsung Transfix.

The handset will be available as of today and it will come with a contract-free price of $179.99. Those interested in the Samsung Transfix will be able to find it at any of the Cricket branded retail stores along with Cricket dealers and of course, online with Cricket.

“We are very pleased to bring the Samsung Transfix to Cricket customers,” said Matt Stoiber, vice president and general manager, devices for Cricket.  ”The Transfix features an easy-to-use slide out keyboard that makes messaging a breeze.  Combined with its affordable price we believe the Transfix will be attractive to our customers looking for an Android device.”

And as you have read from the above quote, the Samsung Transfix is aimed at the messaging crowd and sporting a slide-out hardware QWERTY keyboard. Additional features include a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, 800MHz processor, microSD card slot, 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Also coming as the other available Android smartphones with Cricket, the Samsung Transfix will have complete access to the Android Market.

All said and done, this may not be the most exciting Android announcement, however with a relatively low contract-free price and mobile plans that include nationwide coverage with “unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited U.S. long distance, unlimited text and picture messaging, unlimited text to Mexico, unlimited Mobile Web, unlimited directory assistance, as well as a variety of calling features and feature-rich mobile applications such as popular games, ringtones and wallpapers” — things sound pretty good.

And lastly, for those who may have checked out Cricket in the past to learn that they did not have coverage in your neck of the woods, you may want to look again as the coverage has recently gone nationwide.
