Sprint iPhone 4S & iPhone 4 Not Getting iPhone Insurance

In case you have already pre-ordered your first Sprint iOS smartphone or you plan to buy either the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 4, you should know that Sprint will not offer you any iPhone insurance plans with your purchase.

That may sound like it’s bad news, considering that both the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 4 share the same basic design and therefore both feature front and back glass panels. Those of you that are afraid of accidentally breaking that glass – and no matter how durable it is, it can always happen – could always go for the default insurance plan available out there, Apple’s AppleCare+, which may prove to be an even cheaper choice.

According to leaked information from Sprint, the carrier will not include the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 in its Total Equipment Protection plan. Here’s what the screenshot above says:

The AppleCare+ program is an updated version of the regular AppleCare extended warranty plan, which offers protection from future accidental damage. It costs $99 and it has to be purchased at the same time you buy your new iPhone. Those of you that have already pre-ordered the iPhone 4S from Sprint may not be able to qualify for the new AppleCare+ program:

Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of technical support.1 AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee.

If you don’t end up damaging your iPhone you’ll be saving cash by not paying Sprint a monthly insurance fee for the entire duration of your two-year contract, which costs $6.99 per month with AT&T for example.
