Enter The Modern Era With New Sonic Generations Trailer

Well folks, we’ve made it: in this latest Sonic Generations trailer, we’ve arrived at the modern era of Sonic games – the era that most Sonic fans would simply like to forget. We’ve already seen the Genesis era and Dreamcast era in previous trailers, but in this one, it’s all about 2006′s Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Colors.

Truthfully, Sonic Colors was by no means a terrible game, but Sonic the Hedgehog was critically panned and quickly forgotten and even though Sonic Unleashed has managed to secure a cult following, it was just plain weird. Yes, I know that it had some cool levels and all of that, but I’m just not interested in playing a game that features were-hogs and human girlfriends for my favorite blue hedgehog. Call me crazy.

But hey, we can’t have the good without the bad. Thankfully, what was once bad is actually looking pretty good in this trailer. There’s no sign of were-hogs or humans anywhere, and just like trailers we’ve seen in the past, Classic Sonic’s side-scrolling levels are prominently featured.

We’re getting close to Sonic Generation‘s release date, and even though I’m approaching it with a sense of hesitancy, I can’t help but be excited to see Sonic return in classic form. It isn’t as if some of the more recent Sonic games were terrible either – both Sonic Adventure titles had a lot to like – but there’s nothing quite like some classic Sonic side-scrolling action.
