HP CEO Meg Whitman To Decide Fate of PC Business This Month

We'll Find Out What Happens To HP's PC Business by The End of October

When the death of the webOS on HP was announced, it was also mentioned that HP is spinning off its PC business. HP is the world’s biggest PC maker, as such that announcement prompted many to proclaim that PC is nearing its demise. Since then, numerous reports have surfaced. When CEO Leo Apotheker was replaced by Meg Whitman, it was reported that HP might be keeping its PC unit. Now, it seems Whitman is bound to make a decision soon.

During Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit this Tuesday, Meg Whitman announced that she’ll decide Apple’s fate by the end of October.

“That’s a decision I’d like to make … certainly by the end of October.”

Whitman admits that the deadline isn’t written on stone, and it “may slip a bit,” but she’ll definitely make sure she makes the decision faster than Apotheker did. Don’t make predictions as of yet, though. Whitman says she’s “open-minded” about the whole business, which we take as it could go either way.
