Apple didn’t really announce a fifth-generation iPod touch today. There’s no real iPod touch 5G and it won’t have that 3G connectivity as previously rumored.
The iPod touch will still pack the same features: ultra thin design, Retina display. FaceTime support, HD video recording, Gyro but it will come with iOS 5 on board. That means support, among other things, for iMessages and iCloud. iPod touch users will be able to use iMessages for free, over Wi-Fi while iCloud support will help them better manage their music collection.
Those of you interested in a new iPod touch will probably want to buy the new white version, which was previously spotted in previous leaks. But overall we’re looking at the same iPod touch 4G we’ve grown accustomed to.
As for pricing, depending on how much storage you need, here’s what you can expect starting with October 12:
- 8GB iPod touch – $199
- 32GB iPod touch – $299
- 64GB iPod touch – $399

No way am i buying the same thing twice i want an iPod touch that holds 128gb so if they don’t up the memory anytime soon(which the technology has been available for more than a year already) I am certainly not buying anything. i cant fit nothing in 64gb i have 100gb of music and 8gb of apps sorry apple but no business with me this year.

Any bump in terms of processing power, camera, anything? I guess the price drop might attract me but I already have a better iPad 2 so I really cannot justify a reason to purchase this.
Id rather buy a galaxy player 5.0. now if it had 3g I think that would be a gamer changer. But with voip apps maybe apple feels a 3g enabled ipod touch could cannibalize on the iphone.

I waited for the iTouch 5g, figuring they’d fix the obviously nerfed Camera in this version (It’s Apple’s style – release a good product with obvious flaws, then fix those flaws a year later getting you to buy another product).

I cant believe that apple failed. Samsung and panasonic have more and better features than the iphone4s and are cheaper. Will apple fall like its stock rates to a status like out of competition???

Apple acts like they’ve made new iOS devices but the iPhone just has a 8mp camera and A5 chip (so will the iPod touch). The iPod touch is just in white and lowered price. The only thing new from the nano is lower price. Apple will loose a lot of money this year if they don’t make another iPhone, touch, and nano before next year.
Come on apple! We waited a delayed time because of the iPhone and you gave us crap on all three iPhone nano and touch

Count me as one of the many disappointed people after hearing Apple’s announcement today! Apple, you lost a potential customer who was ready to get either a new 4+ inch screen iPhone 5 or iPod Touch. Now researching to see if I will get a Samsung Galaxy Player or the new Sony Walkman Z1000. They seem to be listening to the masses better that Apple.

I have an iPod touch 32GB that came out last time and the only difference I can find (hardware wise) in the new one is faster WiFi (now n). Is this correct?

If you already have the iPod 4G, then there seems to be no point buying the iPod 5G, it’s mainly for people who have an older version of the iPod and want the newest one. Stop complaining and just wait for later ones.
I have a touch 3rd Gen and since I don’t see the point in buying a new one every year I didn’t bother with the fourth one. I was waiting with the fifth one to be released but apparently I should be waiting another year. Don’t blame this one the new guy, this isn’t his fault. If they haven’t released a new one the decision was made long ago before Jobs left.
I cant take this anymore. I’m 15 and I cant afford an iPhone so I was praying for the next iPod touch to have 3G. I wouldn’t have minded to much if they released an iPod Touch 4G with 3G. I cant have Wi-Fi where i live and all my freinds text so I was on my knees that apple would add 3G. I currently have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and it is barely holding up. I would buy the new white iPod Touch but they lowered the price so they might be releasing an iPod Touch 5G with 3G soon. I will be angry if I buy one and then a 3G model is released. I’m even starting to lose faith in Apple.

E-mail just sent to Apple;It is my opinion that apple has failed to listen to their consumers. With recent reports of the new iPod touch 5G release many apple users appear to be dissatisfied with technology updates or lack there of. Other apple competitors have options on their devices that apple users would like, and by now, expected apple to use this technology. Zune has had HD radio for years and now with samsungs galaxy player with an fm tuner. Apple expects consumers to purchase optional Gigaware hardware to experience this feature? The rumored 3G service for the iPod touch 5G would have at least given iPod users a great alternative to the ridiculously bulky gigaware hardware. Not even a camera upgrade? No HD Radio? No 3G service? All this technology is available, why is apple not capitalizing on this? Ive been to the apple blogs and these are the biggest complaints. Apple is not listening to the iPod users only their iPhone consumers. I will not be buying any apple products in the near future and am looking into other products NOT manufactured by apple. Waited for the 5G and apple newest idea? White iPod? A very dissatisfied apple consumer.

All the haters don’t know what they are talking about. The Iphone 4S is AWESOME! Just the enhanced camera featuers and Siri voice recongition is worth $199 alone.

If it’s just a little update to give while you wait for the 5th generation then that’s cool but if that is the 5th generation I’m disappointed. I would buy it if it had the A5 chip but if there is nothing different I guess there’s no reason.
No it doesn’t have the A5 processor :( it isn’t any different except it comes in white which is pretty cool if you have an older model

I just got my new 5g ipod touch last night and I LOVE IT. I had a nano before (lasted me about 3 years and still going strong) but I wanted the apps and the ability to go online with it. This is the first time I’ve been able to afford an ipod touch and I’m extatic! Its awesome. You guys are spoiled. Dont whine that you cant get a “new” Ipod when you’ve gotten a new one last year! If your old one is working fine than stfu and donate that money to charity or something! Spoiled brats!

Kelly doesn’t have a 5g touch. They aren’t available yet. Apple really screwed the pooch with the oct release. They’ve had the capability to produce and release the 5g iPod touch for months, but they want to sell as many of the 4th gen touch as they can first so they can make you buy all over again this spring. I was most disappointed with the camera on the 4th gen. They have an 8mp on the iPhone and they screw us with a 0.7mp on the iPod, WTF?
