Yahoo & ABC Make Deal On News Content

ABC Will Supply News Content & Related Material To Yahoo's Audience, Including Good Morning America

Yahoo has seen better days since its time as the biggest search engine in the Internet. And while it hasn’t exactly slipped out of the public eye yet–it’s still one of the most traveled sites on the entire net at last report–it’s clear they’ve got to do something to put some punch back in their numbers. And they think they may have just that in the form of a partnership with ABC.

Under the agreement, ABC will become Yahoo’s primary source for news reporting, and the deal actually kicked off this morning by Yahoo reportedly airing Good Morning America, ABC’s popular morning news program. ABC will also, at last report, be developing some original series around anchors like Christiane Amanpour. But Yahoo won’t just be counting on ABC for news, as Yahoo will continue to develop its own news content, especially in the arena of sports. Yahoo has gained a lot of respect in recent days as an authority in sports newscasting, having reportedly broken a scandal at the University of Miami in which players were furnished with cash and other benefits by wealthy boosters.

The timing of this particular move is especially interesting in light of the fact that we’ve just been hearing about Yahoo’s interest in selling itself off, according to multiple reports, not to mention word about potentially interested buyers. If Yahoo’s out to make itself look more valuable just ahead of a sale, then bringing ABC on as a content provider would certainly help do that particular job. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to get some more content in general, but getting ABC in the fray is definitely a step in the right direction.

So what do you guys think about all this? Is Yahoo trying to get some life back in its sagging numbers? Or are they looking to “stage the house”, so to speak, for an upcoming potential sale? No matter what you think about this concept, the comments section is waiting for you. So head on down and tell us what you think!
