Verizon Wireless Announces The Pantech Hotshot, A "Touchscreen Basic Phone"

Pantech Hotshot Announced For Verizon Wireless, Set To Arrive On October 6th With An On-Contract Price Of $99.99

It looks like Verizon has once again added to their non-smartphone device lineup. Or more accurately, will soon be adding to the lineup. The latest handset to get announced in the feature phone market is the Pantech Hotshot, which is described as being a “highly portable touchscreen basic phone designed to keep customers connected via voice, text and Web.”

And of course, the Pantech Hotshot joins another recently announced Pantech offering from Verizon, the Jest 2 which came available last week with an on-contract price of $79.99. That being said, the handset from todays announcement comes priced a bit higher — at $99.99 on a two-year agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

In terms of the Pantech Hotshot, this is a feature phone, however there is some options available in terms of user customizations. For example, the Hotshot has three home screens which can all be customized by the end user with options to add favorite contacts, pictures and shortcuts to those screens.

And coming as one would expect in terms of a phone from Verizon, the Pantech Hotshot will be full of V CAST goodies including the ability to watch video clips, sports and news from V CAST Video. In addition, the Hotshot will have access to V CAST Tones for ringtone and ringback tone downloads as well as compatibility with another Verizon branded service — VZ Navigator which gives audible turn-by-turn directions (for an added monthly expense).

Otherwise, some of the other features and perks that those who purchase the Pantech Hotshot can expect to find include;

  • 0.35-inch ultra-slim touchscreen design
  • 3.2-inch LCD touch display for effortless navigation
  • 3.2-megapixel camera and camcorder
  • Full suite of messaging options, including text, picture, video and voice messaging and mobile instant messaging
  • Opera Mini Browser for accessing news, sports, weather and email
  • 2 GB microSD card pre-installed
  • Supports up to 32 GB microSD card
  • Bluetooth support includes dial up networking, basic imaging, basic printing, headset, hands-free, stereo, phonebook access, object push for vCard and file transfer
