Virgin Mobile Will Not Be Reducing Data Speeds Until 2012 [Virgin Mobile Delays Reduced Data Speeds For Those Who Go Over 2.5GB, Now Set To Go Into Effect Sometime Next Year]
You have to love it when a carrier buries a bit of happy news at the bottom of an unrelated press release. And that being said, that is just what Virgin Mobile has done. The good news involves data speeds and in short, the plan to begin dropping customers to slower data speeds has been pushed back until sometime next year.

If you remember back, the news came back in mid-July when Virgin Mobile introduced the new Beyond Talk plans. The deal was that they were going to slow speeds for users once they reached the 2.5GB level.
“Beginning in October 2011, Virgin Mobile will also move to reduce data speeds when a customer’s data usage exceeds 2.5GB in a month but still provide unlimited 3G access without a contract, usage cap, overage or activation fees.”
Basically, it was a plan that would still allow you to have an unlimited plan, but one that will keep you limited in speeds once you reach a certain level. On one hand, simply being slowed down is better than having to worry about going over. Or worse yet, having to worry about paying overage fees. But at the same time, an unlimited plan should be an unlimited plan. Of course, we have all had that argument before and it seems it is not one that will end up being won by the customers.
Anyway, the good news is that plan has been delayed for at least three more months. The update came at the bottom of the announcement for the HTC Wildfire S and reads as follows;
“The previously announced decision to reduce throughput speeds when any Beyond Talk customer reaches 2.5GB of data usage within a current monthly cycle has been postponed to 2012.”
Bottom line, if you had been worried about falling into that category, rest assured in knowing you can surf at high speeds regardless of how much data you use for at least October, November and December.
