Skype For Android Gets Updated, Brings Video Calling Support For Additional Devices [Skype Updates Android App; Now Includes In-Client Advertising Along With Improvements For Video Calling, Bluetooth & More]
It looks like we have another update for Skype on Android. And while this latest update brings video calling support for a variety of additional devices as well as some improvements to items such as Bluetooth and video calling — there is one new addition that some may not like all that much — in-client advertising.

That being said, this latest Skype for Android update brings the app up to version 2.5.0.108 and it arrives as a 10M download and remains available for devices running Android 2.1 or later. Though, on that last note about needing Eclair or later, some of the features will only work on some of the devices.
For example, one of the new features is support for video calls in both portrait and landscape, however some handsets will be limited to landscape mode only. In addition, those making video calls will now be able to double-tap-to-zoom while in a call. Some of the other new features and improvements in this latest version include;
- Revised Recent view – conversations now grouped around your contacts.
- Improved support for Bluetooth headsets.
- It is possible to edit and delete IM messages.
- Skype will no longer restart in the background when you sign out.
Moving on, the additional devices that now support video calls include;
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (T-Mobile)
- HTC SHOOTER (KDDI)
- Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
- Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
- Acer Iconia Tablet (A500)
- LG Optimus Black (landscape only)
- LG Optimus 3D (landscape only)
- LG Optimus 2x (landscape only)
- Motorola Photon
- Motorola Droid 3 (landscape only)
- Motorola Bionic (landscape only)
- Motorola Xoom
- Motorola Atrix
And lastly, the feature that we suspect some will have an issue with — in-client advertising. While this sounds bad, it may not be as bad as one would initially think. According to the details provided by Skype;
SourceAdvertising will not be shown to users that have Skype Credit, a Calling or Skype Premium subscription.
