Psychonauts Gets Steam Update, Mac Version Goes Live [Psychonauts Now Available On Mac App Store, Windows Players Get Steam Update]
Being a Mac gamer can be rough sometimes. There are some big-time devs like Blizzard that make their games compatible with Mac, and thankfully we’re seeing more and more indie developers make Mac versions of their games available through digital distribution clients like Steam. However, normally the wait for a Mac port of a game is years-long, if not never-ending.

Fortunately, Mac owners can add one more title to the catalog of games they can select from – Double Fine released a Mac version of Psychonauts today! The Mac version of Psychonauts is available on both Steam and the Mac App Store right now, and if you picked up the Windows version of Psychonauts on Steam, it now supports Steam Play. This means that, should you find yourself owning both a Mac and Windows computer, you’ll be able to play your copy of Psychonauts on both.
Psychonauts is the first Double Fine game to appear on Mac, and to celebrate that fact, Double Fine has released a new Psychonauts iOS app. This app will let you watch all of the game’s Memory Vaults with additional, never-before-heard commentary from Tim Schafer and Scott Campbell. The best part is that it’ll cost you absolutely nothing to download this nifty piece of extra content.
Windows users have some reasons to get excited as well, as their version of Psychonauts has been updated. That is, your version has been updated as long as you activated your copy through Steam. The updates Double Fine added to the Windows version today include the aforementioned support for Steam Play, new Steam achievements, and support for cloud saving. Not only that, but Tim Schafer said in a Double Fine press release that they’ve lowered the difficulty of the Meat Circus after receiving feedback from fans who said it was a touch to difficult.
So after six long years, Mac players can finally stop praying to the video games gods for a port of Psychonauts. Are any of you Mac users planning on picking this up? If you haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet, I highly suggest shelling out for Psychonauts – it’s a great little game that didn’t get the attention it deserved.
