HP Phoenix Gaming Desktop May Be Heading For Wider Release [Previously UK-Only HP Pavilion Elite Phoenix Could Be Making Its Way Stateside]
Admittedly, the name “HP Pavilion Elite Phoenix” sounds entirely too much like that part in Mystery Men where Mr. Furious is trying desperately to invent a cool “real name” to tell the waitress he’s crushing on before settling on the truth and telling her that it’s actually “Roy”. But this surprisingly potent piece of gaming hardware from a company that was trying to do hardware better might be making its way into a wider release, sooner than you might think, too.

Basically, the HP Pavilion Elite Phoenix will go on sale starting next month as part of a line of PCs that emerged following the great TouchPad debacle. Some have even posited that the name “Phoenix” is actually a bit of a jab at home office, showing that the PC line can rise from the ashes of the TouchPad, though considering the amount of time a proper marketing campaign takes to initiate, this is probably just serendipity writ large.
Specs on the device are a bit slim on the ground, strangely enough, and so far all we know is that this is packing an expectedly massive 16 gigs of RAM (they are calling it a “gaming PC” after all, and we all know that means larger than life spec sheets), as well as a graphics card that seems to match up with a high-end Nvidia HD6970. It’s probably safe to assume an Intel Core i7 will crop up in there somewhere, and hard drive storage should arrive in the terabyte range, as well as a variety of extra ports and the like, plus some lower-end specs available for the more budget-minded gamer who’s prepared to accept just a bit lower performance.
This is how they usually boil out, and frankly, I’m not looking for HP to make a whole lot of new moves at this point, especially given that their hardware line has seen better days and their vision of being “cooler than Apple” likely just left on the same bus as Leo Apotheker. That having been said, it’s entirely possible I–indeed, we all–could end up surprised.
So what do you guys think? Would an HP Pavilion Elite Phoenix look good on your desktop? Or does this British import not look that appealing to you? Either way, we want to know what you think, so hit the comments section below and fill us in.
