Dell XPS 14z Gets Ship Date Range, No Pricing Yet
If you were with us during our extensive coverage of the IFA 2011 show, then you might remember the XPS 14z from the crew out at Dell. Well, they’ve finally graced us with a whole lot more information about this little guy, including when you’ll be able to go hands on with one of your own.

Turns out Dell is announcing that it’s looking to start shipping the XPS 14z in the United States within the next few weeks, meaning many of us will have the opportunity to try one of these out for ourselves. As for what we’ll be looking at here in terms of specs, well, Dell was willing to oblige us there too, at least somewhat. It’s set to measure in at just under an inch thick–0.9 inches, in fact–and will offer up an Intel Core i5-2430M processor (or an Intel Core i7-2640M, your call), Optimus graphics from Nvidia, a USB 3.0 port, an optical drive for those of you who can’t get enough of the physical media, and LG’s Shuriken display, which contributes to the overall slimness of the device.
A few blanks remain to be filled in–presumably the display is in 1920 x 1080 resolution, and I’d love to know what kind of hard drive and RAM this thing’s packing (word is there will be a solid state drive as an option, which isn’t surprising, but is quite welcome for those willing to sacrifice storage size and cost effectiveness for rapid data access and improved stability), as well as all the other little things it’s sure to be packing in.
It’s a shame that we don’t yet have an actual shipping date beyond a vague measure of weeks (though admittedly, we’re getting into holiday shopping rush time here, so Dell probably wants to hold a trump card or two to get its name in on the news cycles), and even worse that we don’t have pricing, but still, we know more about it than we did, and what we’ve got so far is looking pretty nice. Hopefully all the blanks will be filled in with appropriately good quality material in the days to come.
But what do you guys think? Think the Dell XPS 14z is a laptop you can get behind? Or is this particular Dell not one you’d be interested in? However you feel about it, we love hearing from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think!
