Case-Mate iPhone 5 Cases Spotted in AT&T’s Inventory Ahead of Release Date
The iPhone 5 announcement will take place on October 4 on Cupertino’s campus. That’s in five days from now but the rumors and leaks mentioning the new device continue to mount. Earlier today we heard the new iOS 5 smartphone will sport HSPA+ 21Mbps data speeds and we even saw a homemade device prototype built using unconfirmed recently leaked details.

Now it’s time to look at AT&T’s inventory again which is what the screenshot below is allegedly showing. In it we see plenty of iPhone cases, made by various manufacturers but we’re definitely interested by seven of them in particular, as they were listed a few weeks ahead of a certain smartphone’s the release date.

They all appear to be “Apple iPhone 5 Case-Mate” cases, and, if the screenshot is real, then we’re looking at an unofficial smartphone name confirmation with just a few days to go until the official announcement.
Apple has been rumored to launch, depending on who you ask, either an iPhone 5, an iPhone 4S, or both models this year. The iPhone 5 is expected to be a high-end upgrade, when compared to the current iPhone 4 model, while the iPhone 4S is said to be a low-cost, mild iPhone 4 version.
What’s even more interesting regarding these purported iPhone 5 cases is that they’re made by Case-Mate. If that name doesn’t tell you anything yet then it means you missed the case renders posted by the company a few days ago which suggested a completely new iPhone 5 design. Or exactly the kind of new physical aspect we’ve just seen earlier today from that homemade fake iPhone 5: a longer, wider and thinner device, a teardrop shape and iPad 2-like round edges. Case-Mate quickly pulled the cases from its website then, although we may see them displayed again come October 4.
