Actual iPhone 5 Prototype Spotted in the Wild, Too Bad It’s Homemade
We’re just a few days away from the official iPhone 5 announcement, and just a few weeks away from the actual launch date. We’re surrounded by iPhone 4S/5 rumors and purported leaked parts and images but today we have something more interesting to show you, a very smart iPhone 5 design that was recreated based all the existing next-gen iPhone stories out there.

Giga.de built the iPhone 5 in the images and video below, and that’s a remarkable device there, even if not a real one. Sure it will not have the internal components of the upcoming iPhone but it may very well look like the next Apple smartphone:

Based on CAD designs, hardware components, several leaked hints, cases and recent, believable mockups we created a three-dimensional computer model. This virtual model was then used to build a very detailed, true prototype that you can hold in your own two hands.
The process to create this prototype is the same that’s used to create the iPad. The back was machined from a sold block of aluminium, which was later treated with glass pearls to get the same slightly rough touch that we already know from the iPad.
The prototype of the fake iPhone 5 – we’re calling it fake not out of respect for its creators but because, at the end of the day, it’s not an Apple original creation – is wider and thinner than the iPhone 4. The device is 59.94 mm wide, bigger than the iPhone 4, and measures 109.98 mm in height.
As for its profile, the device is clearly thinner than the iPhone 4, measuring just 6.86 mm at the top and 5.44 mm at the bottom. The device features a 4-inch touchscreen display. The home button has an oval shape instead of the regular round one found on all current iOS mobile devices and the mute switch appears to be missing in action at this time, although recent reports suggest it will be placed on the right side of the device.
It would have been interesting to see this device actually run the latest iOS 5 beta version, but we’ll get to see the real thing next Tuesday when we’ll find out for sure whether the iPhone 5 will indeed sport an iPad 2 like design or whether it will look just like its predecessor.
