Sharp LC-80LE632U Makes An Appearance, Offering 80 Inches Of LED Goodness

Looking For A New Big LED LCD Television? Sharp's LC-80LE632U Has Most Everything For Your Home Theater Needs

Me and big televisions have always gotten along well. It’s hard not to, especially when they’re laden with features and everything that makes a home theater system visual really pop. But the Sharp LC-80LE632U may well be the biggest television you’ve seen outside of a trade show floor.

The Sharp LC-80LE632U measures in at a substantial 80 inch diagonal, which is in turn earning it Sharp’s billing as “the largest LED LCD television in America”. And it’s not just big, either; it’s also packing Quattron systems which add yellow to the standard red / blue / green array for sharper pictures, the 120 Hz Fine Motion Enhanced refresh rate for a sharper moving picture, the Vyper Drive game mode for those of you out there who like using your televisions as gaming tools, as well as a pair of built-in USB ports and built-in wi-fi, which in turn will give you access to a variety of streaming media services like Vudu and CinemaNow, as well as over a hundred apps. It’s also got a pair of ten watt speakers, four HDMI inputs, two composite inputs and a PC input.

Just reading about this thing makes me all kinds of impressed.  I mean, an eighty inch television is unfathomably huge–eighty inches is actually longer than many people are tall (it comes out to be right around six feet, eight inches)–and most people would probably have a rough time finding a place to fit that on their various home theater shelving systems. But still, couple that on with a 120 Hz refresh rate and what you’ve likely got here is an absolutely killer piece of hardware on which to play Skyrim when it finally emerges. It’s not quite the 8k4k they were showing off at the IFA show, but it’s certainly no slouch.

But as you likely expected, there’s a killer downside in terms of price. They’re expecting this one to hit shelves in October, but for the not at all insignificant price of $5,499.99.

It sounds amazing, the specs look terrific, and the price would buy you a rather nice used car in some places. So what do you guys think about this one? Think it’s the kind of thing you’ll want to be getting in ahead of long cold nights spent indoors? Or is that just vastly more television than you need? Head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!

$5500? Surely you’ve missed a digit out there?
I paid 3 times that for my first 50″ plasma back in the 90s!

    2. Nope…the last word I got was $5499.99. Prices may vary a bit depending on where you shop, of course, but that’s the price at last report.
