Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light Coming To Xperia Play In November

Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light Coming Heading To Xperia Play, More Square Enix Franchises On The Way

Square Enix has announced that they’ll be bringing Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light to Android in November, but unfortunately, you can’t play if you don’t own an Xperia Play. Like Mojang before them, Square Enix has signed an exclusivity deal with Sony Ericsson to get Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on Xperia Play before it comes to any other Android device.

In fact, we don’t know if it will even come to other Android devices at all. Admittedly, Minecraft making the jump to touchscreen phones is a pretty obvious decision given the simple nature of how Minecraft controls, but with an isometric adventure title like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, a control pad is pretty much a necessity. That being said, I don’t think it’s a good idea to hold out much hope for a version of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on other Android devices.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light marks the first in a line of “established” Square Enix franchises that will appear exclusively on Xperia Play. What those other franchises actually are is anyone’s guess, but you can be sure that we’ll be hearing more about them in the weeks and months to come.

Also unknown is a precise release date for the Xperia Play version of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Square Enix and Sony Ericsson got as specific as “November,” but we’re going to have to wait for a solid release date to be announced.

If you haven’t checked out this game on Xbox 360, PS3, or PC yet and you happen to own an Xperia Play phone, I highly suggest checking it out. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light followed in the footsteps of a long line of mediocre Tomb Raider games, and even though a lot of people (myself included) went in expecting more mediocrity, many were surprised and delighted by Guardian‘s refreshing take on the Tomb Raider franchise.

Hell, up until the Tomb Raider reboot was announced last year, I thought that this was a promising new direction for the Tomb Raider franchise. Those hopes were quashed when third-person gameplay in Tomb Raider was revealed, but I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Keep it tuned right here to TFTS and we’ll be sure to let you know when Square Enix and Sony Ericsson announce a specific release date for the Xperia Play version of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light!
