Amazon Makes It Official, Announces The Kindle Fire [Amazon Kindle Fire Officially Announced, Will Feature A 7" IPS Touchscreen Display, Wi-Fi Connectivity & Come Priced At $199]
Amazon has taken to the stage this morning, and as expected they have officially announced their latest ereader, the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire comes as a new device for Amazon, one that will add some additional competition for the Barnes & Noble Nook Color.

Yup, as previously rumored, the Kindle Fire is a tablet style ereader with features to include a 7 inch IPS touchscreen display with Gorilla Glass and a 1024 x 600 resolution, dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4 processor and 8GB of internal storage space. And while some may be a bit disappointed in terms of the limited amount of internal storage, rest assured in knowing that will be supplemented by Amazon. According to the details we have seen, the Kindle Fire will come with unlimited cloud based storage for your movies, television shows and music files.
In addition, those who purchase the Kindle Fire will also get a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime which means you will have access to those recently announced movies and television episodes from Fox. Well, those along with the rest of the Amazon Prime instant content which now totals more than 11,000.
Otherwise, the Kindle Fire will be a Wi-Fi only device and come running Android, though for those looking for apps — think Amazon Appstore as opposed to the Android Market. In addition, some of the regular tablet features that one has come to expect will be left off — for example, the Kindle Fire will not have any camera.
Bottom line here, the Kindle Fire seems interesting enough as far as the specs and features go and given the price, this could be a nice seller. The Kindle Fire will be selling for $199 and will begin shipping in mid-November with pre-orders coming available sometime later today.
And for those not into the Kindle Fire and its color display, rest assured as Amazon has also unveiled the kindle Touch with e-ink display.
