Sprint CTO Still Promising Not To Axe Unlimited Data Plan
Sprint has been going through a bit of restructuring as of late. Perhaps they are doing all of this getting ready for the iPhone launch but when will they stop? They recently increased the early termination fee and got rid of the Premier Program and even though they promise they won’t people are nervous they’ll eventually get rid of the unlimited data plan they currently offer. Sprint CTO Stephen Bye reassured us once again, while at Mobilize in San Francisco, that unlimited data is not currently on the chopping block.

They did put a 5GB a month cap on data used with a mobile hotspot but they have kept the regular data usage set to unlimited. Bye admits that there is a certain cost associated with offering unlimited data to customers. Some users use a lot more data than others do but that’s part of what unlimited data is. He also points out the simplicity that an unlimited data affords because other companies have to spend money educating customers on the different tiers and data usage, etc.
In the end, it seems Sprint is cutting other programs and raising other fees in order to hold on to the unlimited data plan for as long as they can.
