Klei Entertainment Announces Shank 2, Out In 2012
Klei Entertainment risked a lot in developing the original Shank. For any studio, developing a title in a new, unproven franchise can be a big risk, but that risk is compounded if you’re an indie studio. For some indie studios, the success or failure of a game is a matter of life and death, and Klei decided to bet it all on last year’s Shank.

It looks like that risk ended off paying off in a big way – not only was the original Shank a success on all of the platforms it launched on, but it brought Klei Entertainment a new level of exposure. It also seems to have to made them quite a bit of money, because today they announced Shank 2.
According to the announcement on their website, Klei has been working on the development of Shank 2 for nearly a year now. Luckily, if you couldn’t get enough of the original Shank, you won’t have to wait much longer before you can play its follow-up, which Klei says will be out in early 2012.
Apparently, Shank 2‘s story focuses on Shank defending those close to him from danger, but we all know that a gripping narrative isn’t the reason you play a game like Shank 2. The original game stole the hearts of gamers with its refreshing take on 2D brawler combat. If the trailer below is any indication, that fast-paced combat will be returning for round two, and Klei promises an arsenal of new weapons to aid you in destroying all who oppose you.
At the moment, those are all the details we have on the next Shank installment. It’ll be hitting Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, and Windows at some point early next year, so keep it tuned here for more details as we approach the game’s release. In the meantime, check out the trailer below and head to the comments section to tell us if you’re excited for Shank 2!
