T-Mobile & AT&T Finally Bringing Cell Coverage To NYC Subways [T-Mobile & AT&T To Bring Cell Phone Coverage to New York City Subways Tomorrow]
Cell phone coverage is expanding more and more throughout the United States and more and more people are relying on their mobile phones in all kinds of areas. New York City has historically had issues with reception is certain areas, more specifically in the subway system. Finally, almost a year after an announcement, T-Mobile and AT&T customers will get some reception in the underground tomorrow.

Last October we reported that this was coming but we didn’t know just when:
It was just made known today that T-Mobile and AT&T are looking to give New York City subway stations cell phone reception in the near future. This comes after a promise made by the City 5 years ago when they told us cell phone coverage would be coming to subway stations soon. There’s no telling when exactly the roll out will be complete but both T-Mobile and AT&T have signed 10-year contracts with Transit Wireless to provide their subscribers with cell phone coverage underground so it shouldn’t be too far off.
Starting tomorrow, there is going to be a pilot program bringing service to T-Mobile and AT&T customers is several areas of the NYC subway system. According to the New York Times:
… at the C-E platforms at 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue and three other stations along West 14th Street: the A, C, E and L platforms at Eighth Avenue; the F, M and L platforms at Avenue of the Americas; and the Seventh Avenue station that serves the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lines.
They hope to eventually bring coverage to the rest of the subway system including the trains. Hopefully more carriers will get on board so no cell phone customer will be left behind.
