Motorola XOOM 2 Android Tablet to Come in 8-Inch & 10-Inch Form Factors [More XOOM 2 Leaked Images Appear, With Motorola Launching New 8-Inch Media Edition Form Factor]
Motorola is not a stranger to Android devices, having released the first ever Honeycomb tablet, the XOOM this February. But now that Google and Motorola are able to work together in developing Android smartphones and tablets, will they have a competitive advantage? More details emerge as leaked images of the upcoming XOOM models go the rounds of blogs and news outlets.

Leaks are quite abundant from Motorola lately that we wonder if they’re intentionally releasing photos of their upcoming Xoom tablets to gain buzz among the techie crowd. Over the weekend, tech blogs like Engadget, Liliputing, The Verge and Droid Life have been discussing the upcoming tablet releases, and what these might mean to Motorola. Recall that Google is finalizing its acquisition of Motorola Mobility, and there are questions whether their ownership of the mobile manufacturer will give Motorola preferential status.
Based on the pictures so far, Motorola is coming up with not one, but two XOOM tablets. At least one of the two leaked tablets will not come in the usual form factor we’re familiar with. While one tablet comes in the 10.1-inch form factor that has been considered standard in this device class, the other comes with an 8.2-inch display. This particular model is reportedly going to be called the XOOM 2 Media Edition, and will weigh just a sliver below one pound.

Both tablets will be around 9 mm thick, and will come with 5 megapixel rear-facing cameras. Both will run Android Honeycomb 3.2, and support 4G LTE (the data-capable models). What’s interesting is that the new XOOM will also have remote control features that will run via infrared, which means they will be compatible with just about any TV set (even your grandma’s 1980′s Trinitron). A handful of remote control apps are likely to appear in Android Market soon.
Expect more details to emerge as more pictures are — ehem — leaked. For now, we’re watching this space, as we wonder what kind of new stuff Motorola will be adding to the upcoming XOOM now that they’re under Google’s fold.
