Amazon Kindle Tablet May Sell For Less Than Expected

Reports Emerge Suggesting That The Kindle Tablet May Be A Better Value Than Previously Expected

We’re all looking forward to the impending announcement of the Kindle Tablet from Amazon, set to launch this Wednesday, but there are some reports moving out there that suggest that the price may be even lower than was originally thought.

At last report, via our own Chris Smith, the price on a Kindle Tablet was set to be just $250, which as tablets went was really not half bad, especially for all the things you were set to get in it. But what some reports are suggesting is that the tablet itself may actually end up costing less by way of a bit of bundling.

See, some reports have noticed that Amazon Prime membership, which provides access to an all you can stream buffet of somewhat limited choices, runs $79 dollars a year. And it’s also pretty likely that Amazon will want to hawk its various services, like the ebooks and the music and the video and suchlike, along with the release. So there are some quarters suggesting that that $250 price tag is actually the price tag with a year of free access to Amazon Prime, which would drop the price of the actual tablet itself down to $171. Whether or not you’ll be able to buy the tablet itself at that price and give up the Amazon Prime access is, of course, unclear, and probably a bit unlikely. Odd prices are nothing new for Amazon, either; bear in mind the ad-supported version of Kindle that sells at $114.

But still, if these reports pan out as suggested, it’s going to probably put a real fire under tablet buyers, especially those who like to get their video on the go. Whether it will supplant the iPad, or just coexist peacefully with it, is unclear, but I look at a deal like that and think, wow, that would be a pretty good idea, especially for the media buffs out there who’d like to carry around a fairly substantial quantity of streaming capability with them, and more so if they manage to land Hulu.

So what do you guys think? Figure it’s a fair bet that some kind of bundling will go on when the Amazon Kindle Tablet lands? Or will these reports fail to materialize at the big launch? No matter what you think, the comments section awaits below!
