Skyrim On Wii U? Bethesda Says It's Possible

Bethesda Says That They Might Port The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim To Wii U If The Hardware Can Support The Full Game

You know, I feel bad for my Nintendo-loving friends. Sure, they get awesome games like Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Kirby’s Epic Yarn, but they’ve missed out on games that define this console generation. Specifically, the Wii missed out on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and it will be missing out on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as well.

While Skyrim definitely won’t be making an appearance on the Wii, Bethesda isn’t so quick to shrug off the Wii U. When asked about their plans for Skyrim on the Wii U by Official Nintendo Magazine UK, Bethesda’s VP of marketing Pete Hines said that it’s definitely a possibility, but it all depends on whether or not the Wii U can handle their upcoming epic:

It’s definitely a possibility for the future. We’ll look at any platform that will support that games we’re trying to make, but that’s the key thing – the console has to support the game as it is designed.

Since the Wii U is still very much a work in progress, it’s pretty much impossible to speak with any certainty as to the Wii U’s hardware. If its innards turn out to be comparable to what’s inside an Xbox 360 or PS3, there seems to be a pretty good chance that you’ll see Skyrim grace the Wii U section of your local GameStop.

Then again, it might be best to not get your hopes up just yet. After all, Hines reminds us that porting a game isn’t as easy as just snapping your fingers, and that their plate is already pretty full with the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions. That being said, if they think they can make money on it, they’ll likely pursue a Wii U version of Skyrim regardless of how much work is involved.

What do you think? Do you think the Wii U will be powerful enough to land its own Skyrim port? Would you buy Skyrim on the Wii U if Bethesda decided to bring it to the console sometime next year? Head down to the comment section and share your thoughts!

Nintendo executives ripped theme selves out to convince people that unlike original Wii, Wii U is built for hard-cores but in fact only sales can lure developers to make their +17 tittles for the console and this is the case with Bethesda, they didn’t dismissed it because they want to wait and see how it performs in the market.

The term hardcore is so misleading. Games like Madden are somehow considered hardcore which makes me wonder who the hell comes up with these terms. Can’t wait until this new system drops and has he jump on the market. Hopefully 3rd party will have a chance to make a real effort on the new interface instead of a token/spinoff releasing party they threw for the Wii. I am tired of playing the same IP updates from 15 years ago. At least Nintendo keeps the gameplay fresh when they add new installments to their franchise. One look at halo and you can tell that horse is asking to be buried. I have faith they will do something new next gen even if it isn’t on a Nintendo system.
