Motorola Xoom 2 Gets Leaked, No Release Date in Sight Yet
Well, well, look what the cat dragged in today, leaked images of the next-gen Motorola Android tablet, the Xoom 2, but strangely, the images suggest it’s not going to be a 7-inch device. We have no idea when this baby will hit stores, but it’s clear that Moto isn’t ready to give up its Android tablet endeavor despite unconvincing Xoom sales.

The original Xoom was the first tablet expected to give the iPad 2 a run for the money, but unfortunately Motorola priced the device too high when compared to its Apple-made rival. Sure the device had what it needed to beat the iPad 2 when looking at the hardware of the two tablets alone, but it lacked the proper power under the hood to really become a bestseller device. The new Honeycomb OS, no matter how interesting it was, still lacked a decent ecosystem of apps at launch.

Hopefully Motorola has learned a thing of two from past mistakes, especially now that’s going to work even more closely with Google than ever, and the Xoom 2 will be a lot more competitive.
There aren’t that many specs and features available for the new tablet, but something tells me we’re going to see a lot more leaks in the months to come. In the mean time, we’re looking most likely at a 10.1-inch display, a slightly different overall appearance, SIM slot, HDMI, micro USB port, no SD slot support, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE support (the 3G/4G version), an HD camera back camera, a front-facing camera and Android OS. The device wasn’t turned on and we’re certainly interested to see whether this baby will run Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

The Xoom 2 is similar in weight to its predecessor (which you can see in the first of the three image featured here) and also in size, but you can notice it has a new design featuring rounder corners. The device is codenamed MZ617 and we’ll certainly keep an eye for more details about the Xoom 2. Anyone particularly interested in a new Android tablet from Motorola?

I have the original xoom and am mostly happy. I can say for me to jump into a new xoom it would have to have a few improvements. For starters, and this might seem a bit odd to complain about, the charging port is ridiculously bad. The original xoom uses a pin charger. I keep my xoom in a case and can’t be bothered to take it out every time I want to charge it..otherwise I would use the charging dock. The current pin charger has not been good from day one, constantly falling out. They should at least move to something that locks into the unit better. The speakers are good but placement is poor. I know in design they anticipated the sound to bounce more but it doesn’t. It projects so much more sound behind the device. Minor complaint though. I would love to see a screen that is more vibrant with better color saturaturation. It just doesnt look as vibrant as the I pad and tab. Last but not least, I love the os but feel the overall ecosystem and market are dismal and lacking applications for the tablet. I love android and really hope the new ics os eliminates these issues and attracts more developers and overall quality and consistency to android. I never disliked apple and think they make great stuff but I prefer android and apples most recent behavior makes me hope they get a taste of there own medicine. Lawsuits only cost us more money in the end and stifle innovation.
And since its second Gen, thinner and lighter only make sense. I’m all wifi so don’t car about the 4g support. Keep it thin.
it is not any cheaper, only few upgrades…so why buy?
I’m in the market for the next gen. moto xoom!!!!
Apple is just a fade!!! people that buy apple products are just narcotized by everyone following the lead…. They focus on looks and what they hear instead of facts! Apple is a waste of money….
I would most certainly upgrade if the internal storage is greater, lets say 64gb’s or more. I’ve hit the wall on my existing Xoom with internal storage and, oh yeah, as most will tell you that have the 4g upgrade, It means in short, bye bye memory slot as there is a simm card that goes in there to support the 4g connectivity. I’d like to also see more video players, codec’s and faster processing. I wonder what type of upgrade path will be available fo existing Xoom owners? Will we have to wait till the new every 2 options are possible like with the phones?
