Windows Phone Will Win Battle For Third Place In the Mobile Industry According To Verizon CEO
You have to admit that right now in the mobile phone realm there is only two real players battling it out: Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, thinks the industry is longing for a third player and he thinks that will be Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

In a talk at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia event the other day, he said that he thinks Windows Phone will beat RIM for the third ecosystem in this industry. Third ecosystem? This is how he explained it:
The carriers are beginning to coalesce around the need for a third ecosystem. Over the next 12 months I think it will coalesce and you will start to see one emerge as a legitimate third ecosystem. In my opinion, it’ll be between RIM and Microsoft, and I expect Microsoft to come out victorious.
According to a leak from inside, Microsoft isn’t so sure about their own success here. The worry is that they are a bit late to the game. Remember, the iPhone had a good start and they were battling it out with RIM and Android long before Microsoft even thought to get their feet wet, at least when it comes to app ecosystems and wide popularity as a smartphone.
Time will tell. Mr. McAdam gives it 12 months so we shall see.
