GOG Approaches Six Million Downloads
Ah, Good Old Games. While digital distribution may be dominated by the Steams and Impulses of the world, it would be foolish to forget about GOG. After all, they’re the ones who let us play classic PC games here in 2011, and for that, they’re totally awesome.

Need more reasons why they’re totally awesome? Well, for starters, the classic games they offer can hardly be called expensive. They’re also owned by CD Projekt, the studio responsible for giving us the excellent The Witcher series, so every purchase we make there helps ensure financial security for a developer that cares about making and supporting great games. Oh, they’re also giving the person who downloads their six millionth game their entire library of classic games.
That’s right, GOG.com is quickly approaching six million downloads, and if you’re lucky enough to be the person that makes the six millionth purchase, you get GOG’s entire catalog for free. It’s going to take a masterful combination of patience, timing, and luck to be the one who makes download number six million, but damn if that isn’t a great prize for doing nothing other than buying a game.
If you’re not lucky number six million, worry not! GOG also announced that everyone will be getting a free copy of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Director’s Cut once they hit six million downloads, so provided you’ve got an account there, you’re in for something free regardless of whether or not you make download number six million.
The free copies of Broken Sword will only be available for 48 hours after they hit six million downloads, so keep an eye on the download counter they’ve got up on the main page of GOG.com to make sure you don’t miss out. We’ll also post an update right here at TFTS as soon as we’re aware that GOG has hit six million downloads, so keep checking back with us!
