Battlefield 3 DLC Coming To PS3 Before Other Platforms
If you’re a fan of military shooters and your main squeeze is the PlayStation 3, chances are you’ve felt shafted at least in recent history. Microsoft is known for paying the big bucks to secure timed exclusive DLC releases on the Xbox 360, and unfortunately for PS3 owners, Microsoft shelled out that cash to nab Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC a month earlier than everyone else.

But the tides will soon be changing, because Electronic Arts and DICE announced today that Battlefield 3 DLC will be landing on PS3 before it comes to Xbox 360 and PC. However, while this is pretty great news for PS3 owners, they’ll only have early access to Battlefield 3‘s DLC for a week before it’s released on other platforms, so PS3 owners won’t have long to brag about their bonus to their Xbox 360 and PC-playing friends.
It’s nice to see the PS3 actually get a leg up when it comes to the military shooter genre, but it begs the question: wouldn’t it be a better idea to take the money used for timed exclusive DLC and use to secure some actual exclusives? Admittedly, this is more a question for Microsoft since the PS3 already has quite an impressive array of exclusive games, but it seems like games that are actually exclusive to a platform would fuel more sales that timed exclusives would.
Yeah, I know the whole idea of a timed exclusive is to make the choice of which version to buy a no-brainer for people who own multiple platforms, but that doesn’t make the concept seem any less silly to me. In fact, a better idea would be to take the money paid for both exclusives and timed exclusive and invest that money back into R&D so you can give your consumers the best console experience possible. After all, who needs all of those exclusives when your console is unquestionably the best in terms of accessibility and functionality?
But nevermind these musings of a jaded gamer, and instead head down to the comments section and tell us what you think of the PS3 getting Battlefield 3 DLC early – is it good to hear, or could you not care less?
