YouTube Video Editing Just Got Easier with Magisto

Magisto's Magical Video Editing Tool Makes a YouTube Appearance; Will We See an Improvement in Home-Made Video Quality?

Millions and millions of user-uploaded videos make it to YouTube without as much as a sliver of editing. But now you don’t have to be a slick videographer to add some spice to your videos, as YouTube integrates Magisto into its user interface.

Magisto is sort of a “video editing for dummies” web application, in that it will require very minimal user input in editing videos. Simply upload your video, with a maximum of 16 clips, add music to the soundtrack, and voila! Magisto will do the scene selection and music synchronization for you. There’s no need to select the best scenes, and there’s no need to rearrange clips. For as long as you know how to upload video files, you’re okay. Magisto even has a built-in selection of music tracks so you don’t need to upload your own soundtrack.

Magisto’s developers say the software uses an algorithm to automatically detect faces, pets, toys, and landscapes, and can differentiate between these. The software also removes noise, adds transitions, does image stabilization and even lowers the volume when there’s dialogue.

Magisto can be accessed from the YouTube video toolbox when you access www.youtube.com/create. The startup actually just launched this week, receiving $5.5 million in series-B financing. And while it doesn’t offer users an option for more advanced video editing tools, like the other YouTube editing features, Magisto will make sure that the majority of the site’s users can at least have an improvement in the quality of their video uploads.
