iPhone 5 Announcement Rumored for October 4, Tim Cook to Deliver the Keynote

New Report Suggests Apple Will Introduce the iPhone 4S/5 in Early October, Steve Jobs Not to Take the Stage?

A recent report suggested that Apple may hold its annual fall media event on October 5 to introduce the highly-anticipated iPhone 4S/5 and it looks like today we have more evidence that points to an early October fifth-generation iPhone announcement.

This time around its All Things D doing the reporting, based on “sources close to the situation,” and it looks like October 4, a Tuesday, is going to be the day when the new iPhone model or models will come to life.

What’s most interesting about this upcoming keynote is that Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, is said to deliver the keynote. For the fist time since the introduction of the iPhone, Steve Jobs may not take a central role in the new iPhone’s announcement, although his appearance on the stage is not yet completely rulled out:

That’s because it will be newly installed CEO Tim Cook’s first big product introduction and the place where the public will get a first lengthy impression of him that may well set the tone for Cook’s new role.

And that’s why, said sources, although he’s never quarterbacked an Apple product announcement before, Cook is certain to preside over the iPhone 5 rollout.

This will certainly be a very important keynote, not just because the new iPhone is going to be introduced, but because the public will see Cook’s own selling abilities. Among Jobs’ main strengths we can certainly note his presentation skills. The former CEO has a great talent of presenting new products and selling them to the crowds in the theatre and to the public at home right from the first announcement.

Jobs can deliver a powerful first impression when it comes to entertaining the crowds, so Cook will have some big shoes to fill. But than again, his reign at top of Apple has started under such auspices, his predecessor is a visionary man that helped Apple grow to become the giant it is today, and he will be tough to follow.

As for the actual launch of the new iPhone, the same sources revealing the keynote date said that Apple will launch the device “within a few weeks after the announcement.”
