Gmail Adds Multiple Sign-in Option to Mobile Application

Gmail Updates Mobile Web App, Decides It’s Time to Support More Than One Account

Google announced today new updates for its Gmail mobile web app, with the most interesting of them being multiple sign-in support.

The company has enabled the feature on desktops for a while now, and those of you that currently operate more than one Google account will certainly appreciate being able to use it on the go as well:

Just like on your desktop, you can now to sign into multiple accounts simultaneously. To sign into an additional account, click on the account switcher at the bottom of the thread list, then click ”Sign into an another account.” You can quickly switch between accounts by selecting the desired account from the Accounts menu.

Another handy trick is that each account will have its own bookmark in the browser so you’ll have to update your Gmail bookmarks in order to take advantage of the changes.

Other features of the new Gmail web app version include the mobile-specific signature and the vacation auto-responder. The vacation auto-responder is pretty clear, simply configure it and enable it and go about your vacation without having to worry about the incoming emails. The senders will be notified that you’re enjoying your vacation.

The mobile-specific signature is both useful as silly at the same time considering Google’s explanation for such a feature, people need a plausible explanation for their mobile spelling capabilities, although in some cases that won’t be enough to excuse one’s typing mistakes:

Let your friends know that you are responding via your mobile phone so that they understand why you might have sent a message that you are meeting for “monitors” and not “mojitos”. It’s an easy way to make them understand why your message might be short or have a few typos.

Activating and deactivating the feature is fairly easy, and I know what you’re thinking, the same signature could be faked on the desktop version of Gmail. Just set up your signature to pretend you’re typing from a mobile device and you won’t have to worry about misspelling anymore.
