Battlefield 3 Pre-Orders Top 1.5 Million

Battlefield 3 Pre-Orders Soar As We Approach Battlefield 3's Release Date, Does Modern Warfare 3 Have A Serious Competitor In Battlefield 3?

It was only a few weeks ago that Electronic Arts announced that Battlefield 3 had surpassed 1.25 million pre-orders, but now a new report from Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says that pre-orders for the highly-anticipated military shooter have surpassed a whopping 1.5 million.

If Bhatia’s analysis is correct, then Battlefield 3 is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year. But we already knew that Battlefield 3 was going to bring home the bacon for Electronic Arts and DICE, the question now is whether or not it will top Modern Warfare 3.

Truth be told, the Call of Duty series will probably reign supreme for another year with Modern Warfare 3 – but that prediction is just me going off of Activision’s recently-revealed Black Ops sales numbers, which have topped 20 million in less than a year after release. That’s not to say that Battlefield 3 won’t make Modern Warfare 3 work for the FPS crown, as chances are pretty good that Battlefield 3 is going to offer up some stiff competition and allow EA and DICE to walk away with a significant chunk of Activision’s market share.

At just over a month before release, the excitement for Battlefield 3 is so great that it’s nearly palpable. Even I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far, and I normally steer clear of military shooters in favor of a good dungeon crawler or open-world RPG.

There’s no denying that Battlefield 3 is bringing a lot to the table when it releases next month, and while it may not be enough to topple the Call of Duty franchise, one thing’s for sure: if DICE and EA can deliver this year and keep that quality up in years to come, the folks at Activision, Infinity Ward, and Treyarch have a lot to worry about and are going to have to step their game up with future Call of Duty installments. I see no reason why this is a bad thing, though.

So, who thinks that Battlefield 3 can break 2 million pre-orders by the time it releases on October 25th?
