AT&T Announces Samsung Galaxy S II Release Date & Pricing

AT&T Makes It Official; Samsung Galaxy S II Will Be Available Beginning October 2nd

AT&T officially confirmed the upcoming availability of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone along with its specs back in late-August. At the time the rumors were suggesting a September 18th release. And well, that date has since past so we know that was not happening, but thankfully for those waiting — AT&T has taken to Twitter and offered not only the release date but the pricing.

That being said, the Samsung Galaxy S II will be available with AT&T beginning on October 2nd. The handset will come priced at $199.99 on a two-year agreement. With that, it looks like those who have been waiting can officially go ahead and mark their calendars. And interestingly enough, and not that we are saying that any connection exists — but we cannot help but notice that this release is coming just days before Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5.

Anyway, AT&T had previously offered up the specs along with a coming soon style teaser page but for those who missed that — here is a quick recap. The Samsung Galaxy S II has HSPA+ connectivity, a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 16GB of internal storage, 8 megapixel camera (with 1080p video recording) on the back and will arrive running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Other goodies include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 1650 mAh battery and a 2 megapixel front facing camera.

All said and done, it looks like AT&T will soon have another powerful Android handset in the available device lineup. But with that, that power comes with a price of nearly $200, which for some may be a bit more than they are willing to pay. Then again, going back to the latest iPhone 5 rumors, we are left wondering if anyone will end up waiting to see what happens on that front before making another two-year commitment to Android.
