Verizon HTC Rhyme Officially Announced, Will Be Available September 29th

HTC Rhyme Announced For Verizon Wireless, Will Bring Features To Include A 3.7" Display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread & HTC's Sense 3.5 User Interface]

HTC has officially announced the latest Android handset — the HTC Rhyme. And as we had seen in the lead up and rumors, the handset will be making its way to Verizon Wireless here in the US market. In addition, the Rhyme is also expected to debut across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific sometime in October.

That being said, Verizon looks like it will have the HTC Rhyme available for sale beginning on September 29th with pre-orders kicking off a bit earlier on September 22nd. The handset will come priced at $199 on a two-year agreement and ship with a docking station, charm attachment and tangle-free headset.

  • HTC Rhyme Docking Station – The Docking Station simultaneously recharges the phone while turning the Rhyme into an alarm clock and music center so you can wake to your favorite songs played directly from the built-in Bluetooth capable speakers.
  • HTC Rhyme Charm – The Charm is an innovative approach for discretely alerting you to incoming calls or messages while the HTC Rhyme is deep in your bag.  The Charm is a small light-emitting cube that attaches to the phone by a cord that can dangle from your bag and also be used to quickly pull the phone out of your bag.  It also makes it easy to find your phone buried in your cluttered purse or backpack.
  • HTC Rhyme Tangle Free Headphones – The Tangle Free Headphones take the hassle out of listening to your favorite music.

In addition, there will also be other accessories for sale to include a sports armband, matching Bluetooth headset and a Bluetooth car speaker. But moving past the accessories and in to the specs and we learn of a device that will arrive with a 3.7 inch (480 x 800) WVGA display, VGA quality front facing camera, 5 megapixel rear facing camera with auto-focus and LED flash and running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. In addition, the HTC Rhyme will ship with version 3.5 of the Sense user interface which will bring goodies to include a new home screen, HTC Watch and more. Other hardware specs include 3G speeds, a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack and GPS.

All said and done, the HTC Rhyme could be a nice phone, though we suspect that some would rather prefer to pay a bit less and not have the included accessories. That and, this is certainly going to be limited to a rather specific audience given the color — purple.
