Samsung Nexus S 4G To Get Google Wallet Update
Well, folks, you already heard the suppositions from our own J. Angelo Racoma that turned out quite accurately: Google Wallet has indeed landed and is ready to help process your money like nobody’s business. But an even more interesting bit slipped out: the Samsung Nexus S 4G reportedly got an update of its own that includes the anticipated Google Wallet program.

Forecast for a release by “summer 2011″, and with three days left until fall kicks off in earnest throughout the northern hemisphere, the announcement hit on Samsung’s own FAQ page, which pretty much says that this is news to not take lightly. The Samsung FAQ in question deals with how to update to build GWK74, which is now available. And if you already have a Samsung Nexus S 4G, you should be getting a notification about an over the air update to your systems fairly soon, if you haven’t already.
Of course, this latest use of NFC (Near-Field Communications) technology isn’t coming without a few competitors looking to grab their slice: PayPal has already reportedly been working on a service to top Google Wallet, and even sued not so long ago over same, plus Mastercard also looked into getting something going, along with a whole host of others.
The whole concept is likely to be just the beginning of a whole slew of similar services, and you might do well to save your cash now as it’s likely to be pretty valuable as a collectible in the not too distant future as more cashless payment options like this emerge, over the objections of more than a few folks. But will there be sufficient support for the idea of using your cell phone as your wallet to make the concept worthwhile? The sheer number of companies introducing cell phone-based wallet technology suggests that it’s likely, but will the users be there to take advantage of the service?
What about you guys? Would you use a service like Google Wallet to make your normal daily purchases? Or would you be too concerned about potential fraud or the other issues of cashless transactions to be interested? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and give us the rundown.
