$99 HP TouchPad Firesale Returns on September 28, At Least for U.S. Employees

HP to Sell Cheap webOS Tablets Starting Soon, General Public Not Eligible at First

I know some of you are still waiting for your $99 TouchPad unit and we all know HP is going to launch one final batch in the near future. And it looks like we have a release date for the new stock, at least the one made for HP employees, which will be the first ones to be eligible for a new webOS tablet purchase.

HP has apparently sent an internal email to announce employees that starting with September 28, 9:00 AM PST, they will be granted “one last chance to buy an HP TouchPad through the Employee Purchase Program on a first come first serve basis.”

As expected the devices will cost $99, the 16GB version, and $149.99, for the 32GB TouchPad. The tablets will be shipped up to 10 days after the order has been placed and every person will be limited to one TouchPad purchase, “at least initially.” There’s one more rule that applies, this firesale extension only applies to U.S. HP employees, so everyone else must find a different way to secure their unit.

As you can see the email doesn’t say anything about the return of the TouchPad in retail stores. As far as we know the last batch of webOS tablets will be fairly limited, and the devices will also be available only to U.S. customers.

While you wait either to place a TouchPad order or to have your previous order ship to your door you may be interested to hear that the Android port for the TouchPad is a project that’s advancing steadily, and by the time the last batch of tablets hits stores we may see a fully working dual-boot webOS-Android ROM for the TouchPad, which is why some people choose to buy this heavily discounted gadget in the first place. Of course, buying a $99 tablet only to sell it via eBay or Craigslist for profit is another good reason.

We’ll be digging for more information regarding the launch of these new TouchPads, but in the mean time let us know why you want the tablet in case you’re still interested in buying it!

I am not an hp employee, but I have been trying to buy a hp touch pad since it went on sale at the lower price. I was able to get on their email list before they took that down. Hp said they would let people know when they could buy the next batch of touch pads, if they do not have enough for regular folks, and I do not get one. I promise, I will never look at any item hp has to sell as long as I live.

You want one for the same reason everyone else does – they’re cheap now! Everyone had a chance to buy the TP before the fire sale and no one wanted to.

Unfortunately because of poor planning even employees are unable to purchase the Touchpad today. The site is overwhelmed.

I just wish that when the next batch for retail comes out, they are only available on Amazon. Will also save HP deployment costs since they don’t have to go to B&M stores, just stay in their warehouse to be fulfilled by Amazon. I love Amazon.com!
