As you may very well know, we’re waiting for Apple to finally announce its fall media event, as that highly anticipated keynote is supposed to star the upcoming fifth-generation iPhone. There was plenty of speculation suggesting Apple would host an early September event, but that didn’t happen and we’re heading now into the third week of September, with no press release on the matter from Apple.
And just when we least expected it, news came that Apple’s media event may take place on October 5. According to PocketGamer, who has it from an inside source (hopefully not a Samsung employee), the iPhone 5 as well as iOS 5 will be announced in early October.
While we agree that “the symbolism works well too: iPhone 5, iOS 5, October 5,” we’ll take this date with a huge chunk of salt for now. In all fairness, and considering that the New York Times said an announcement is coming in the next few weeks, we do expect Cupertino to hold its fall keynote in late September or early October. But we’d have no way of being sure whether that’s the actual date of the event.
The same source seems to believe that the retail release will occur a week later, on October 12, which seems to fit well with previous rumors. iOS 5 is already rumored to be launched on October 10, a few days ahead of the iPhone 5 October 15 release date predicted by France Telecom’s CEO. Naturally, these dates can’t be confirmed at this time either.
October 5 falls on a Wednesday and if that date sounds familiar that’s because a previous report claimed that carriers will be able to test and report on the iOS 5 GM by October 5.

I’m buying it the day it comes out.
I really wish iPhone would come to tmobile…..in that case, then I too am buying it the first day it comes out! I have an unlocked iPhone 4 which I love, and If the 5 is really going to be extremely slim, the count me out, because I hate the form factor of the iPod touches….they’re just too slim! Though I think a case could fix that!
Yes to the iphone 5. I got an ipod4 as a present last year and so I’m a new convert to apple and hanging out for the iphone.
It’s just a pain that it also happens to be the longest wait EVER for an apple product.

Seeing as how ive been a sprint customer for several years now(mainly because i cant afford verizon at&t plans) Im ecstatic that the iphone5 is coming to sprint! Im eligible for my full upgrade(150$off:) as of September 1st so HELL YEA IM GETTING IT!!!! My 1st smartphone will be an iphone5… Doesnt get better than that! Apple just reaches a level of sophistication and pure beauty that Android smartphones just cant compete with!
