Xbox 360 Ultimate Arcade Stick Gets Shown Off From Razer, Wants Help Designing It

Razer, folks, has given us job lots of great gaming peripherals to check out. From simple headphones to full-on gaming laptops, they carry right on and give us all the stuff we need to make our gaming experiences as complete as possible short of Mountain Dew and Cheetos. And they’ve got an impressive new item they’re starting to show off geared for the Xbox 360 gamers in the crowd, like myself: the Xbox 360 Ultimate Arcade Stick. And there’s a twist to this one that will really catch your attention.

What you’re looking at above is reportedly an early image of the Xbox 360 Ultimate Arcade Stick, and for those of you who thought the original Xbox controller was a handful (giving rise to the term “xbox hueg”), well, prepare to sling a whole plank across your lap. At least, that’s what they’re looking at right now…but may not be looking at it for long.

See, the folks out at Razer probably started to wonder if they were tempting fate, inviting the “xbox hueg” meme back into play to describe their massive eight-buttoned contraption with joystick and Razer logo all in one conveniently enormous package. And to that end, they’ve put out a request for closed beta testers to join in the designing of the big new arcade stick. They’re looking for pro gaming teams to do the testing for them (and probably get a little of that halo effect (or Halo effect if I went for the really obvious pun) on the side by proving the controller’s gaming credibility on the professional level. But they’ll also take just regular old gamers, and are offering up fully 500 prototypes to be sent out for testing. In turn, the testers will give their feedback on the devices and all that feedback will go toward the final design, and eventually, likely renaming of the Xbox 360 Ultimate Arcade Stick.

A clever idea, I’d say, giving gamers a chance to redesign a controller and really feel like it’s theirs.
