iPhone 5 Screen Protectors Provide Hints To New iPhone 5 Design
We’ve been hearing a lot these days about the iPhone 5, and it all pretty much bears considering, even in the cases where it directly contradicts other things we’ve heard. And now, there’s a new report emerging that suggests the iPhone 5 will be slightly wider than the previous iPhone, as well as offering one other important difference: a wider home button. How do we know? Peripherals.

Recently, a new line of what was purported to be iPhone 5 screen protectors slipped out, complete with photos from unwire.hk (one of which is below). And one of the photos showed a screen protector that was both wider than the iPhone 4′s dimensions would have been, as well as providing extra space directly below what should be the screen for the home button. Said extra space was elongated into an oval, rather than being the perfectly round shape of the home button that we’re all accustomed to at this stage of the game.

Some have wondered if these cases are actually intended for an iPhone 5, but rather possibly the rumored iPhone 4s. Some have wondered if perhaps these are meant for a new version of iPod Touch instead that has yet to be announced. And some have even suggested that these may be for a completely different phone altogether, and these are all distinct possibilities. But assuming this is a case for an iPhone 5 as the reports suggest, we may be looking at a substantially different model. And this comes on the heels of earlier reports that say the exact opposite, that the iPhone 5 will look very similar to the iPhone 4.
Such conflicts can only be resolved as the inevitable result of what happens when a new product is about to launch with minimal information emerging from the actual manufacturer, thus every report that follows is of an unofficial nature. But what design will finally win out? Will the iPhone 5 look like the iPhone 4 or be something completely different? Will we even recognize it? That’s a question that’s prime for speculation, so I invite you down to the comments section and speculate away.
