Samsung Nexus Prime, a Bigger Nexus S? Release Date Still Late October

Google’s Nexus 3 Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich Handset Seen Sporting LTE Capabilities; Other Specs & Features Mentioned]

Besides the iPhone 4S/5, which is the hottest gadget being discussed right now, Samsung’s upcoming Google Nexus 3 model, also dubbed the Nexus Prime, the Galaxy Nexus, or simply put, the Prime, is getting more and more attention from the public and the press.

The phone has not been made official yet but it did get leaked from various Samsung- or Verizon-related sources, so the cat is pretty much out of the bag. Unless the world end by late October, we’re going to see Samsung launch the next Nexus, on schedule, just as it’s being rumored right now.

We’re not surprised to see The Droid Guy report another sighting of the Nexus Prime. There are no images of the spotted device in the wild, but according to the developer, who was attending Verizon’s developer conference in Las Vegas last week, an “unidentified device” in the hands of a Samsung employee was spotted.

We’re talking about a brand new phone, one that hasn’t been seen so far, but one this guy had a chance to play with after agreeing to remove “bagpacks and hats” and on condition that he “couldn’t have a phone out.”

The Nexus Prime is apparently similar to the Nexus S, only a little taller. The device is also a little thicker to accommodate LTE support, which is something we assumed the other day when we first heard the Prime could be a Droid Charge replacement in Verizon’s lineup.

Other specs and features include an 8-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, NFC, MHL and HDMI. The device also has one single button, the Home button similar to the one found on the Galaxy Note with a power button and volume rocker placed on the sides.

The Nexus Prime will have a TI OMAP dual-core processor and it will run Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich although the demo version seen in Las Vegas only had Android 2.3.4 on board.

According to The Droid Guy, the phone will not be a Verizon exclusive in the USA as Samsung will make both a GSM and a CDMA version of the Prime. Sure, we agree with the second part, a GSM version will also be made for international users, but that doesn’t necessarily indicate that other U.S. GSM carriers will get the phone. The phone is expected to launch in late October or early November, but that’s something we already knew, didn’t we?

This will be my next phone. I’ve had the iPhone since the first release and every model thereafter. I’ve had it with the 3.5 screen plain and simple. The nexus will have a 4.65 screen with as high of Res as the iPhones 3.5 screen plus 4g and more memory. Apple I’m out?
