iPhone 4 Still Thinnest Smartphone of Them All, Ahead of the iPhone 5, in the UK
“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who in the [UK] land is [thinnest] of all [smartphones]?” is the kind of question people want answered right away, at least in some parts of the world.

Like in other lines of work, size matters, with smartphone manufacturers making sure their newest designs also offer the thinnest profiles possible. In the UK they took the thinness factor even more seriously when it comes to competing smartphone designs like the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S II, although so similar, at least according to Apple,.
UK’s Advertising Standards Authority ruled in favor of the iPhone 4, when it comes to choosing the thinnest smartphone profile between Apple’s latest iOS handset and Samsung’s Galaxy S II. The iPhone 4 measures 9.3mm in depth, no matter where you’d measure it. While Samsung is bragging with the Galaxy S II profile of just 8.71mm they forget to mention in press releases that, at its thickest point, where the antenna is found, the phone measures 9.91mm. Therefore the iPhone 4 beats the Galaxy S II, at least when it comes to UK’s ASA.
This is, yet again, a tiny victory for Apple, and while not as important as those tiny victories obtained by the company in various courts in Germany, The Netherlands or Australia, it still counts for something.
The iPhone 5, expected to be launched at some point in October, possibly in or around the 15th if recent reports are to be believed, was rumored to be, amongst other things, thinner than the current model. At the same time other leaks suggested that since Apple will use the same camera module the company won’t be able to offer a thinner profile. We’ll clear the air later this month once Apple finally announces its fifth-generation iPhone model(s).
Personally, at the end of the day, I don’t really care how thin my smartphone is as long as it gets its job done. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that no matter how thin it would be, it would still feel inappropriate in my pocket, and, mind you, I will not dwell into analyzing the other dimensions of a smartphone. Although I will mention that are 4.7-inch, or even 5.3-inch handsets hitting stores soon, which will surely complicate the way one is supposed to carry such a device.
