Facebook Is Responsible for 53 Billion Wasted Minutes A Month

Do You Find Yourself On Facebook Most Of The Time? You Are Not Alone

If you find yourself (or anybody you know) procrastinating on Facebook, know that you are not alone. A recent Nielsen study revealed that Americans spent an astounding 53.5 billion minutes on Facebook back in May of 2011. 53.5 billion minutes? That’s around 10,000 years if my calculations are correct.

That’s, of course, the collective number of minutes Americans are spending on Facebook – just imagine how much time all the Facebook users in the world spend on the site. In fact, according to the Nielsen study entitled “State of the Media,” it’s the website Americans spend most time on. Coming in second is Yahoo at 17.2 billion minutes and then Google with 12.5 billion minutes in third place.

These numbers reflect how powerful Facebook is, and further supports Faceboopk claims of one trillion page views. But then again, with people willing to give up flushing toilets for Facebook, is anybody actually surprised people are spending this much time on the site?
