150K iPhone 5 Units Produced Each Day by Foxconn
Apple is yet to announce its fall keynote during which the iPhone 4S/5 will be shown off to the world, but news coming from the East tells us the company is busy building as many fifth-gen smartphones as it can.

According to Digitimes sources that have access to Apple’s iPhone 5 supply chain, Foxconn is ramping up iPhone production. The company is said to be making 150,000 units per day and we’re talking about iPhone 5 handsets alone here. Suppliers are expected to ship 5-6 million iPhone 5 units in September and “top over 22 million units in the fourth quarter.” Apple is also making iPhone 4 units and it’s likely the company will continue to produce them even after the launch of the next-gen iPhone.
What’s interesting to note in this report is that these sources aren’t making any clear difference between the fifth-gen iPhone models Apple has been rumored over and over to announce, the iPhone 4S, the cheaper version and the iPhone 5, the top of the line version. We also have to keep in mind that this isn’t an officially official report since Apple would not share such details about its current or future products.
Pegatron Technology, also expected to make 15% of the iPhone 5 ordered by Apple has not yet started production and it is now rumored to only begin shipping in 2012. Other companies supplying iPhone parts to Apple, “lens maker Largan Precision, touch panel maker TPK Holding, reinforced glass supplier G-Tech Optoelectronics and battery vendors Simplo and Dynapack” are operating at “full swing.”
We’ve recently seen various reports regarding some of these part suppliers related to future Apple products. Largan is expected to make that new 8-megapixel camera of the iPhone, which has been confirmed by the now famous sushi picture taken by an Apple photographer/engineer, while Simplo and Dynapack are apparently going to also provide slimmer and lighter batteries for Apple’s upcoming iPad 3, among other iDevice batteries.
But while suppliers are building more and more iPhone units, we’re stuck waiting for Apple’s official iPhone 5 announcements. While we wait and look at all the iPhone 4S/5 rumors and reports that hit the streets, let us know what fifth-gen iPhone model would you rather buy, the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5?
