New iPhone 5 Cases Don’t Fit iPhone 4 & iPod touch 4G; They’re Too Big

Should these leaked iPhone 5 cases be actually built on real information on Apple’s design plans for the new device then we could see the company boldly go where only Android phone makers have gone before, bigger smartphones.

Today’s images do not show just the leaked cases, which seem very familiar, probably because we’ve seen similar models before. Instead the current iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G models have been placed inside the cases. This comparison better proves the point these cases make, the next-gen iPhone is bigger, wider and thinner than its predecessor.

The cases also suggest one other important difference, which we pointed out in the past, the relocation of the mute switch button. Said button has been apparently moved on the right side of the iPhone while the volume buttons remain on the same left side. The case also suggest that the next-gen iPhone will have a curvy design similar to the iPad 2, and we can’t help but wonder where the antenna will be placed in this case or how it would look.

What’s also important to note is that other iPhone parts leaks suggested the device will have the same size and shape of the current iPhone 4. We’ve speculated at the time that Apple could launch an iPhone 4S model, the cheaper fifth-gen iPhone, that could look just like the iPhone 4, while the iPhone 5 could offer important upgrades, including several design changes.

Therefore the iPhone 5 could be larger than the iPhone 4 and sport a screen of at least 3.7-inch if not even bigger. Despite the images we showed you today, there’s no way of confirming these details yet, so we’ll have to wait for Apple to actually announce its new iPhone models later this month to talk more about such new design features.
