AT&T Expands Upon The “It Can Wait” Campaign, Releases DriveMode App For BlackBerry [DriveMode App For BlackBerry Now Available, Comes Aimed To Stop Drivers From Using Their Phones While In Motion]

AT&T originally kicked off their “It Can Wait” campaign back in 2010 and while we have mentioned it here on TFTS in the past, it looks like they have returned with another piece. The latest arrives in the form of a BlackBerry app called DriveMode.

The DriveMode app is both free to download and also free to use and can be found by way of the AT&T App Center or the BlackBerry App World. In short, the DriveMode app is aimed towards users that find themselves needing to answer a call or reply to a message while driving. And while this is a touchy subject for me personally — this app (assuming people actually use it) should help make it easier for you to not reply to that message while driving.

You see, the DriveMode app is actually an auto-responder and will send a message that is similar to a regular out of office message. And hey, many are not only familiar with out of office style messages, but they accept them for what they are — a note saying that you are not currently available.

That being said, the nice part here is that this app is all voluntary. First, you need to install it and second, you need to activate it before you begin driving. And once activated, the app will temporarily stop emails, messages, web browsing and both incoming and outgoing calls.

Otherwise, there is also some thoughts given as to an emergency or for those who use their phone for other features such as music and navigation.

  • The “Allow List” lets users select up to five contact numbers – such as roadside assistance and family members – to send and receive calls while the app is running.
  • 911 is an automatically approved number and easily dialable from the home screen.
  • Music and Navigation settings allow one music and one navigation app to run while AT&T DriveMode is enabled.

Bottom line here, don’t talk or message when driving and if you cannot find the willpower to do so on your own — try and use this app (or one similar) to help you out because as AT&T so nicely states — “It can wait.”
