The HP TouchPad Could Make A Comeback, Says HP VP [Word Emerges From High Up In HP That The TouchPad May Not Be Dead After All]

Apparently, when you’ve got a product in stores that flies off the shelves, your first instinct as a business person is to do it again. Not surprising, but I can’t speak to personal experience on that one as I’ve never had a product in stores that flew off shelves. But the recent–and ongoing!–HP TouchPad fire sale of 2011 has left HP wondering if maybe they spoke too soon about this whole tablet thing, and word is, they’re considering a different one.

The head of the Personal Services Group of HP, Todd Bradley, actually went on record with Reuters putting out the idea that there was a possibility–just a possibility, mind you–that the TouchPad’s recent success could mark a return to the field, saying that tablet computing was a market that was “absolutely” relevant, which given the success of the iPad 2, and the even more recent success of the TouchPad itself, isn’t at all surprising to see.

Whether HP will bring it back, or a spun-off Personal Services Group will handle the axe, remains to be seen. And the success of the device itself may not be so much about the device (though a variety of online reviews have suggested that the TouchPad is a perfectly worthwhile piece of hardware) so much as it was about the incredible price. And while HP may not be able to keep up the $99 HP TouchPad for long, they may be able to bring out at tablet that’s down under $300, where it can compete with Amazon’s upcoming tablet, and blow Apple out of the water on pricing, which is a field Apple’s never really done a terrific job of competing in to begin with.

So what do you guys think here? Will we see a scaled-back version of the HP TouchPad make a reappearance on store shelves? Would you be interested in a cheaper, and comparably reduced in performance, model? Or would you sooner spend a couple hundred dollars more on a fully-featured tablet? No matter what your opinion on this, we want to hear from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think!
