T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Official: Specs, Features, Prices & Release Date

T-Mobile Announces Own Galaxy S II Flavor, the 4.52-inch Version

Samsung’s U.S.-based mobile event made the Galaxy S II finally official in the USA. As expected, the phone will be available with three of the four major U.S. mobile operators, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T, with Verizon rumored to be the exclusive carrier of the upcoming Google Nexus Prime, also a Samsung-made handset.

Earlier today we saw Sprint’s Galaxy S II model, the Epic 4G Touch, which was leaked in online training documents by the manufacturer. T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II version will be similar to Sprint’s, although it won’t have an original product name.

T-Mobile’s press release announcing the device is rather short and to the point, which is not what you’d expect in terms of official documents for such a handset:

T-Mobile USA, Inc. is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of the Samsung Galaxy S™ II at T-Mobile this fall. Featuring a brilliant 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen – one of the largest screens available on a Galaxy S II device – T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II promises to keep customers entertained and connected while on the go. We look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks.

That’s not exactly the best way to promote this super Android handset, is it, but we’ll do the hard work for T-Mobile. This GSM U.S. based Galaxy S II version will sport a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB internal memory, 8-megapixel camera with auto focus, 1,080p HD video recording, 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chatting, accelerometer, gyroscope, “4G” support and Android running the whole show. Also notice the curvy design and the missing Home button, replaced by Android regular buttons, a feature characteristic for all Galaxy S II models made for the USA.

What’s definitely strange, considering how late this handset is coming to the U.S. compared with the rest of the world, is that T-Mobile doesn’t seem that eager to mention any pricing details or release dates. The phone will hit stores “this fall,” and that’s about all you get from T-Mobile. Should we assume the phone will sell for the regular $199.99 with two-year contracts?

What U.S. carrier will you get the Galaxy S II from (vote in our poll here)?
