Sprint's October Strategy Event May Talk 4G, iPhone 5

Sprint Announces An October Strategy Event, But What's On The Agenda Is Being Kept Close To The Vest

The folks out at Sprint have recently announced a special October event for a discussion of their upcoming strategy points, and already speculation is going out far and wide over just what might show up in that event. But two key points have occurred to most, and there’s some support for them. Many are looking for the iPhone 5 and Sprint’s 4G plans to show up at this event.

The iPhone 5 speculation is born out of the fact that, at last report, Sprint was set to start selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, which would be about a week after the strategy meeting, which is set to hit October 7th. Of course, some are also pegging October 7th as the release date of the iPhone 5 in other networks, at least, which is kind of a strange time for Sprint to launch a media event. Still, though, that’s roughly a week ahead of Sprint’s launch, so it’s a distinct possibility.

But what most are figuring goes all the way back to CEO Dan Hesse, who said about a month ago that he “had a great story” around 4G that he was looking to tell this fall, which, interestingly enough, is exactly the season October 7th happens to be in. And considering, according to some reports, Sprint has been looking to switch from WiMax to LTE, that may be a perfect opportunity for Sprint to announce those plans.

Being as it’s still very early-stage stuff we’re talking about here, I’m still not surprised by either one of those tracks. Though Sprint does seem to be taking a bit of a chance here going after that particular time frame, when October is going to likely see a whole lot of news gearing up between the holiday shopping seasons coming up and the likely release of the iPhone 5 on other networks.

So what do you guys think about this one? What’s going to show up at the Sprint strategy session? Will it be more 4G than iPhone? Or will Apple’s newest handset get plenty of air time in its own right? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
