Samsung & LG Feel Pressure From Government To Abandon Android [South Korean Government Suggests The Companies Seek A Home-Grown Smartphone OS]

The big news of the month is that Google has acquired Motorola winning themselves a pocket-full of patents and a foot in the smartphone hardware door. Surprisingly, many of the other manufacturers were said to be OK with the merger, including South Korean companies Samsung and LG. Now the South Korean government has come out and expressed concern and has suggested the two companies ditch Android altogether.

The government’s concern could have some validity. What if Google began giving preference to their own handsets and the other Android-toting competitors are left with less of a leg to stand on? It would be entirely possible and perhaps even probable. They are now, by the way, competitors. The South Korean government makes the suggestion that Samsung and LG should begin looking into a South Korean coalition of companies to produce a totally new operating system.

Although these companies may not be in the place to totally jump ship on Android quite yet, if a new OS worthy to compete where to be created, who knows what the future will bring.
