HP Promises Future OTA Update To Add Additional “Functionality” To The TouchPad [HP Remains "Committed" To Supporting webOS Devices, Promises More Updates But Remains Quiet As To When They Will Arrive]

In possibly one of the more confusing product killings, HP continues to send mixed signals in terms of what users can expect in terms of webOS and the TouchPad tablet. Well, maybe mixed signals is a bit strong considering HP has officially discontinued the product and offered a fire-sale on the remaining inventory.

That being said, while webOS running hardware will not be coming from HP any longer, they do seem to be doing a good job lately at maintaining some hype. After all, they have probably had more product coverage since the TouchPad was given its EOL status than in the 49 days it was an active product.

And while we had seen HP state that they would continue supporting the TouchPad and webOS into the future, it seems they are actually planning to roll-out an update. Well, at least one update anyway. The details of the update are coming by way of an HP spokesperson who told CNET that TouchPad owners can expect an update that will “enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalog.”

Still, while that sounds really nice, HP was not quite as forthcoming as to what exactly the update would bring — or when it would arrive. But either way, it is sort of refreshing (albeit a bit strange) to see that any update is coming. Then again, that same HP spokesperson also stated that “HP is fully committed to the ongoing support and service of customers who purchased webOS devices.” And perhaps a bit more important, they “plan to continue to investigate the best ways to leverage WebOS software and grow the applications.”

Lastly, for those who happened to pick up a TouchPad in the fire-sale, remember, HP has discounted the price of the protection plan, dropping it from $79 down to $49.
