Walmart Explains That $249 Price Of Xbox 360 Kinect Was Mistake [Microsoft Isn't "Rolling Back" The Price On The Xbox 360, Walmart Sale Was Temporary, But Does The Xbox 360 Need A Price Cut?]
If you follow the gaming blogs, then you saw last week pictures of a Walmart price tag offering the Xbox 360 4GB Kinect bundle for just $249, about $50 off its regular price. Microsoft responded to press inquiries saying that was Walmart’s decision to sell it that cheap, not a new MSRP for the 4GB Kinect package, but now Walmart has come out with their tail between their legs, admitting that it was a pricing mistake and not permanent “rollback” of the price.

According to Walmart, the $249 price on the Kinect bundle was not a concrete price change, but a pricing mistake. Despite that, they’ll continue to offer the 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect bundle at the special price inside Walmart stores until next Monday, Labor Day here in the States, September 5th, or until supplies of the Xbox 360 4GB Kinect bundle last. And, before you ask, they won’t be taking rain checks, so don’t try that old trick.
There’s been some musings about the Xbox 360 getting a price cut. Sony recently snipped $50 off the price of the PlayStation 3 at Gamescom in Germany. When asked for comment, Microsoft only said that they were getting any pressure to cut the price of the Xbox 360, and surely, if you look at the sales numbers, the Xbox 360 has just been cleaning up and selling tons of consoles. So, from that perspective, no, they don’t need to cut the price when they’re already selling tons and tons of units.
What do you think? Did you nab a cheap Xbox 360 with Kinect from Walmart? Do you think the Xbox 360 needs a price cut? Tell us about it in the comments section.
